BASIS – Certificate in Crop Protection A multi-day classroom-based course, approximately 16-18 classroom days including a 2 day final exam process and a two day Integrated Crop Management course with a separate exam. Candidates have to prepare a 5000-word practical project which is submitted as part of the exam process and is carried out in their own time during the duration of the course. The course usually takes place between the months of November and February. The BASIS course includes crop protection information relating to cereals, oilseeds, legumes, potatoes, sugar beet, maize and grassland. It is advised by HTP that any candidate on this course should have a minimum of 5 years practical farming knowledge including spraying, planting and day to day care of crops and decision making. The exam: Day 1- Multi-choice paper, weed/pest/nutrient deficiency/soil Identification Day 2- On farm crop /chemical store questions followed by VIVA panel (interview) and discussion of project
